Psycrets are proud to have hosted lectures and performances by many highly regarded and influential mystery entertainers at our main Tabula Mentis and ad-hoc sponsored events. Many of these wonderful people are also members - or have become members through enjoying the positive experience of our events (where respected professionals and amateur performers alike mix within a non-elitist environment.)

Psycrets are also proud to count honorary and special lifetime members amongst the Society. These have been awarded to those contributors who are considered to have made a most exceptional, extensive and influential contribution to mystery performance and entertainment, and truly associated as ambassadors to their craft …

PSYCRETS Grand Master of Mystery

Psycrets proudly presented its highest level honorary award - The Griffin Award to David Berglas at Tabula Mentis IV in November 2008. This being in recognition of his lifetime of achievement in the world of magic, mentalism and mystery entertainment.

David Berglas has become known as the International Man of Mystery through the span of his career. He was one of the first magicians to appear on British television with his own show (Meet David Berglas in 1954) also . Numerous other television series followed and were highly acclaimed in Holland, Sweden, Norway and Germany. He caused a further sensation on UK television in 1985/86 with his show The Mind of David Berglas which included a never seen format of interviewing and entertaining celebrities.

Celebrities he has entertained include Winston Churchill, Aristotle Onassis, Paul Getty, Lord Mountbatten of Burma, the Rolling Stones, Elton John, Michael Jackson, the Sultan of Brunei and most of the British Royal Family

Further notable achievements include :

  • President of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (British Ring 25)
  • Voted "King Rat" of the Grand Order of Water Rats, (the world's leading show business charity organisation) in 1979.
  • President of The Magic Circle (1989–1998) The Magic Circle also presented him with the coveted "Gold Medal" in the year 2000, which was only the sixth ever to be awarded since 1905.

He has also been honoured internationally, receiving awards including in 1980 the "Gold Plaque" in Sweden, in 1995 The Magic Circle's "Maskelyne Award", in 2005 the "Masters Fellowship" from the Academy of Magical Arts, [Hollywood] and in 2008 the prestigious "Grolla" in Italy.

In 1999 he established a non-profit organisation called, the Foundation for Promoting the Art of Magic (FP-AM). This has benefited the magical fraternity and has donated substantial funding for educational establishments like The College of Magic in Cape Town, South Africa. The Foundation presents the prestigious 'Berglas Award' annually at the International Magic Convention held in London.

Psycrets proudly presented its Pheonix Award to Todd Landman at Tabula Mentis XIV in November 2013. This being in recognition for his dedication and commitment in the co-founding and development of Psycrets British Society of Mystery Entertainers.

Professor Todd Landman (BA, MA, MA, PhD, AIMC) grew up in rural Pennsylvania, went on to be educated in top academic institutions in the United States and United Kingdom, and has published numerous books and articles on politics and world affairs. He started studying and performing magic at the age of 8, has lived in Philadelphia, Washington DC, Boulder Colorado and now lives in ‘Constable Country’ in rural England.

He studied magic with a mentor as a child and was a member of John Fedko’s Keystone Conjurors. He is now a member of the prestigious Magic Circle, the International Brotherhood of Magicians, the Ipswich Magical Society and is a co-founder of Psycrets: The British Society of Mystery Entertainers.

He has performed as a mystery entertainer in a variety of settings across the globe, in the US, UK, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, France, Italy, Romania, Mongolia, China, Japan and Brazil.

Todd continues to perform, teach magic and mentors performers around the world. He has also written numerous books and creates his own products,




Docc Hilford

Psycrets were proud to induct Docc Hilford as an honorary lifetime member at their Tabula Mentis V event in April 2009

Docc Hilford started his magic career as an under-water escapologist at age 16. He's performed fire eating and other side show stunts, also been a working cowboy and lived with the tribal medicine man on the Navajo reservation !.

In the 1980s he was stage manager for Alice Cooper. Later, Docc’s Film Noir Magic Show opened for bands such as Aerosmith and Black Sabbath.

After a couple years of life on the road, Docc settled down in Phoenix, and ran a private palmistry office specializing in exotic dancers.

In 1990 he took editorship of The New Invocation; the flagship magazine for bizarrists

In 1997 Docc reduced public performing and headed a small psychic church in Florida until 2001. From 1992 - 2000 Docc hosted an international convention, The Weerd! Weekend with attendees from 18 different countries.

Through the years he has been a guest of honour at magic conventions, was a featured speaker performer at The Smithsonian Institution. He's made magic/mentalism videos in the 1990's and further DVD releases in 2000's. He’s written 30 books

Over a 35 year career, Docc’s been a pick pocket, hypnotist, mind reader, illusionist and kid show performer. Somehow along the way he also earned a Doctorate of Divinity from the University of New Mexico.

Docc remains a much sought after performer and consultant

Psycrets were proud to induct Banachek (Steven Shaw) as an honorary lifetime member at Tabula Mentis VII in April 2010

Banachek is renowned for fooling scientists at Washington University into believing that his supposed psychic abilities as a test subject were genuine during the heavily funded ‘Project Alpha’ in the early 1980s. He also took part in an investigation with James Randi exploring Peter Popoff, which ultimately exposed Popoff's false claims.

As well as an author of many influential books (including The Psychological Subtleties series) Banachek has appeared on several television programs including CNN Live, Mindfreak and Unscrewed with Martin Sargent - and is often sought globally as a consultant for both TV productions and performances by entertainers (including Penn & Teller, David Blaine, Lance Burton, James Randi and Criss Angel.)

The Psychic Entertainers Association have also notably recognised Banachek with coveted awards including :

  • Dave Lederman Memorial Award
    (Awarded for Creativity in Mentalism) 1997
  • Dan Blackwood Memorial Award
    (Awarded for Outstanding Contribution to the Art of Mentalism) 2006
  • Dunninger Memorial Award
    (Awarded for Distinguished Professionalism in the Performance of Mentalism) 2007

Psycrets were proud to induct Barrie Richardson as an honorary lifetime member at Tabula Mentis IX in April 2011

Barrie Richardson is author of four highly acclaimed books on magic and mentalism:  Theater of the Mind; Act II – Theater of the Mind; Curtain Call, and A Boon for All Seasons (with Eric Mason). He has published over 100 articles in magic magazines in America and Great Britain.

He has won the creativity citation from the Psychic Entertainers Association and the Milbourne Christopher Award for Mentalism. He is a member of the Inner Circle with a Gold Star of The Magic Circle in London.  His two parades in The Linking Ring won the Best Parade of the Year Awards.

He has performed at conventions and banquets for professional societies around the country for over 40 years where he earned a reputation for using magic and metaphors to present powerful and practical management ideas.

He has lectured on magic in the United Kingdom, Italy, Argentina, and Canada as well as at many magic conventions and magical societies in the United States.  He has performed at a private party in the Kennebunkport, Maine, home of President and Mrs. George H.W. Bush.  

Barrie is Professor Emeritus of Economics at Centenary College of Louisiana where he was Dean of the Frost School of Business for 20 years.

Scott Grossberg has followed a lifelong study of the symbols, metaphors, images, and meanings that life shows us every day. He is a highly sought-after performer, public speaker, lawyer, and popular guest on radio.

With degrees in Philosophy and Law (PhD), Scott serves as lead trial counsel, adviser, and coach for political and business leaders. He is a recognised authority on public speaking, memory, and communication skills. He is a member of The Academy of Magical Arts (The Magic Castle), The International Brotherhood of Magicians (Order of Merlin, Shield), The Psychic Entertainers Association and The National Speakers Association.

He has released three critically acclaimed and best-selling books: The Masks of Tarot, Bauta: Betraying the Face of Illusion and The Vitruvian Square: A Handbook of Divination Discoveries. His other creations include The Deck of Shadows, The Seven Keys: Unlocking the Past, Present and Future, MindCast, A Chip and a Chair, Lunaria, The Teller and The Vitruvian Square Casting Cloth




Sheila Lyon

Sheila is considered one of America’s foremost psychic entertainers — a lifelong student of parapsychology and the divinatory arts. Her personable blend of warmth, humour, showmanship and audience involvement captivates people.  

Sheila’s interest in mythology, history and spiritualism stems from an early fascinationd with ouija boards and gypsies.  Eventually this led impersonating the notorious Anna Eva Fay and bringing to life the heyday of spiritualism, table-rapping, and sealed message reading to large audiences.

Since Sheila has been featured in the Reader’s Digest World Video Mysticism, and the magazines National Geographic Travel, Seattle, and Endless Vacation.  National TV spots have been on the History Channel and Discovery Channel.

Sheila is co-author of Palms UP! A Handy Guide to 21st Century Palmistry, also  Gypsies Go Roving, Stand –Up Divination and The Book of Roaming. She also  published Alexander the Man who Knows with her husband




Christian Chelman

Christian Chelman is ‘The Curator’ (Le Conservateur) of the private Surnateum (Museum of Supernatural History) in Brussels, Belgium. He uniquely utilises artifacts from the vast collection of authentic ‘hauntiques’ to present theatrical storytelling pieces based around magic, cryptozooology, supernatural, gambling, lost civilisations and fairy tales. Highly skilled in classic close-up magic, cheating principles and mentalism he invariably interweaves these techniques with his knowledge and experience into his bizarre presentations

He is author of the influential books Capricorn Tales, Rhesus, Legendes Urbaines, Hautiques and Fabula Hermetica series, plus the Compendium Sortilegionis - his guide to the Surnateum. He has also contributed material for many publications including Magic, Genii, Altar Flame, Invocation, Journal De Prestigitation, Magicus Journal and Mad Magic

Christian became attracted to bizarre / storytelling magic, mentalism and seance work in 1982. In 1993 he won the  prestigious MacMillan Close-up Competition in London elevating him to the ranks of leading contemporary conjurors. He now divides his time consulting and performing private engagements for highly distinguished clients and as the official curator of the museum, where he passionately furthers his study in magic, related artifacts, secret societies and primitive civilisations - with a passion to provide irrefutable proof of the presence of the supernatural and the fantastic within societies.




Guy Bavli

Guy Bavli is an Israel born mentalist, illusionist, and lecturer. Performing from an early age, he later spent a number of years living with Roni and Laraine Shachnaey (whom he attributes as a major influence).  Guy served in the Israel Defense Forces for three years, during which time he developed a mind reading act and became a member of the Israeli Air Force Performing Group as an actor and singer.  Guy has subsequently very successfully developed his performing career and along with countless international television appearances has frequently appeared at The Magic Castle, Carnegie Hall New York and an extended residency at Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas.  Today Guy continues to travel and perform worldwide with his unique performances, conducting 2 full evening shows: Master of the Mind, and Lets Go Mental, in addition to corporate and private performances.
